Starting the Tech Blog

January 18, 2022

Here in the Adirondacks, the internet has been particularly bad recently. So, I started a physical book, Tim Ferris’ The 4-Hour Chef: The Simple Path to Cooking Like a Pro, Learning Anything, and Living the Good Life. Harvest, November 20, 2021. Part of the interest is on the cooking aspect of the book. I follow a “no white” “slow carb” diet I first discovered in Tim Ferriss’ The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman. Moreso, I am attracted to the “Learning Anything”. On page 38, he introduces his DiSSS method, Deconstruction, Selection, Sequencing and Stakes. Tim warned that this section may be a little in the weeds and I agree. But I think it will be worth going through a few times. As a more mature learner, I find learning different than when I was in school. In a high-pressure, time-consuming job, you learned what you needed on the fly and did not think about it much. Now, tackling subjects from the beginning (French, Python, Botany and others), learning how to learn better has become important.

I am finding that taking notes from a physical book is a little more awkward than highlighting in the Kindle app.
