Note-taking app

January 22, 2022

I am working on building the 8-bit computer based on the work of Ben Eater. I watch his YouTube videos on a Raspberry Pi 4 and wanted to take notes on the Pi. I did some research and the best one for me looks like Joplin (www.joplin.org). I can sync the notes across all of my devices, Windows PC, Android phone, and Pi, using Dropbox. It can be backed up using Markup, which appears to be popular. I had considered Emacs Org Mode, but it does not look like it would be easy to sync that across devices. I have been using Microsoft OneNote, but am trying to get away from Big Tech. I was surprised to see Google Keep work so seamlessly on the Pi, but Keep is too lightweight and Big Tech. I also came across Zim on the Pi, a lightweight Wiki app. A note taking app and a wiki are really not that different. But Zim does not have an Android app. I use Microsoft Office, but am going to switch to using Libre Office when possible. Also investigating a Linux laptop.
