My son uses Emacs Org Mode as his note-taking app. He uses Emacs for almost everything. He syncs using Dropbox. He says “Pretty much everything in Emacs is a text buffer, so they are just text files formatted in the correct way. To my mind, a big advantage.” Definitely worth giving Emacs a new try. Should look to see if Emacs would on a Pi or Nvidia Jetson.

I suspected that Emacs should run on a Pi, given the creators’ commitment to open source, and it looks like it will run even on pretty basic Pi hardware: https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/26911/how-to-install-emacs24-4-on-a-raspberry-pi-model-b/26914
On a 4 it should be no trouble.
