My wife asked me to edit a photo of her parents. I opened the file in GIMP 2.10.28 and realized that I know almost nothing about editing photos. I have a ten-year-old book, GIMP 2.6 for Photographers by Klaus Goelker that might be a good place to start.

I’ve had good luck using GIMP to edit photos; I recently created some “reactions” for my Discord server with some basic editing. What do you want to do?

The photo is a picture of a picture in a frame. I would like to take out the background outside the frame and the frame itself. The remaining original photo could use some cleaning up.

Check out the “fuzzy select” tool in the GIMP, really useful for selecting contiguous regions based on color palettes.
