2/5/2022:
Many years ago I organized my life around email, following David Allen’s Getting Things Done. It worked very well for years. Between the Inbox and the Tasks sections of Microsoft Outlook, all of the projects I am working on reside. But I am now questioning, as I explore Deep Work, whether Outlook is the right place to organize. Or maybe it is the right place to organize shallow work, and I need to keep it closed more. The note-taking app Joplin does not notify me of anything. Maybe I keep that open for deep work and Outlook open for shallow work.
I am enjoying reading Deep Work. One thing that bothers me a little is the use of the adjective “shallow” for the more distracted work. It is often important work and “shallow” seems derogatory. Maybe “wide”?
