For my first foray into wood that is not dimensional lumber, I chose a cutting board. I chose one of the designs in David Picciuto’s book “Make Your Own Cutting Boards“. I had a piece of maple in the shop and cut it to size. Then I used a planer for the first time. I think it came out pretty well. Next I will get to use a handheld router for the first time as well, to make the grooves for the feet. As a side benefit to all of the woodworking projects, I mix the sawdust into the kitchen scraps in the compost bin to add carbon to all of that nitrogen.
