I am working on reviewing and summarizing the highlights and notes from books I have read relatively recently. I read these books in the Kindle app either on my Windows 11 PC or my Samsung tablet. I had also been reading them on the Amazon Web Reader on my Ubuntu PC. https://read.amazon.com But with the Web Reader there is not a way that I can see to export the entire highlights and notes. Many are reduced to a line or two, but short of going back into the text for each abbreviated entry, there is not a way to export the complete set. But the Kindle app for Windows works, so for books on Kindle the solution is pretty straight forward.
But Amazon no longer supports uploaded .epub files and stopped most magazine subscriptions. So the Kindle app does not work in those situations. For example, I had been reading Gödel Escher Bach (“GEB”) in hard copy, but highlights and notes I find tedious in that format. There is no Kindle version of GEB, but I just found that there are both EPUB and PDF version on https://archive.org/.
I currently read non-Kindle books and magazines on Calibre for Windows and Ubuntu, though I have not yet done many highlights or notes with it. And I recently discovered the ReadEra app for Android, which seems to work. It will be interesting to see how these various methods work.
